In the interview with The Briefings Natarsha Belling, ex-police officer and Comtrac founder, Craig Doran discussed recent public footage involving a high-profile couple. He emphasised the broader implications and the importance of holding everyone to the same standard. He cautioned against brushing off potential domestic violence as a "joke," noting that doing so sends the wrong message and undermines the seriousness of the issue. Domestic violence is never acceptable, regardless of gender, and society must continue to reinforce that message.
For many police jurisdictions, DFV now makes up the bulk of frontline work. These incidents are intense, emotionally charged, and often repeat. A single DFV callout can take an officer anywhere from four to five hours especially with all the paperwork that follows.
This results in fewer officers available to attend other emergencies and contributes to higher levels of stress and burnout among frontline responders. While police are committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable, outdated systems and manual processes often make the task more difficult.
Comtrac helps address these challenges by using AI to streamline investigations. The platform can analyse body-worn camera footage and other evidence to build briefs of evidence quickly, allowing officers to respond more efficiently, especially in high-risk and time-critical cases like domestic violence.
